THE OMEGA SPEEDMASTER ULTRAMAN ORANGE HAND (1968, REF. ST 145.012-67)

In the collecting world, there are the icons and there are the unicorns. The first category refers to the model themselves (think Omega Speedmaster in general). The second category refers to some exceptionally rare editions that some collectors could spend a lifetime searching for. The Omega Speedmaster 鈥淯ltraman鈥 Orange Hand is one of them.     

Currently auctioning  a 1968 omega speedmaster with papers showing that it is an original Ultraman special edition
 
This watch is featured on the omega website in the museum section along with the other special models and it also has another article dedicated to this watch in the page for the speedy Tuesday 2018 Ultraman omega. Id post links but they wont work!

as you can see from the omega website, the watch that is being auctioned off is original with the dot over 90, 1039 / 516 bracelet and the special fitted orange hand with the specific serial numbers and extract of archives.


An Ultraman in almost the same condition sold at Phillips auctions in New York for $76,000 WITHOUT the original band. The band is 100% original so it is a bit loose, will fit a big wrist of you would have to get some links removed.

as stated in the Phillips auction webpage: 
Though it is not known why a selection of the reference 145.012-67 were fitted with an orange chronograph hand 鈥 legibility is one theory 鈥 it is estimated that less than fifty correct examples exist with this bold, colorful detail. In order to be truly called an "Ultraman", the watch must be examined in person by Omega and accompanied with a note on the archival extract. These watches typically fall within a certain serial number range - between 26鈥?76鈥橷XX and 26鈥?79鈥橷XX.
